Ridio was designed with privacy as a foundational principle. We do not collect personal data, we do not use analytics services, we have no proprietary servers, and we do not require account creation.
Data controller
The data controller is Riccardo Antonio Vaia, independent developer of Ridio.
For any privacy-related request you can write to support@ridioapp.com.
What data we collect
No personal data. Ridio does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information. There is no account to create, no email to enter, no profile to fill in.
Data stored on your device
Your favorite stations, recent searches, and app preferences are saved exclusively locally on your iPhone, in the standard iOS storage system called UserDefaults. This data never leaves your device, and is never transmitted to us or to third parties.
If you uninstall the app, this data is automatically deleted by iOS.
External services we use
Ridio connects to a single external service to function:
Radio Browser API
It is a free public database of radio stations maintained by the community. Ridio queries it to fetch the list of available stations and their stream URLs. When you make a search, the app sends your query (for example "jazz" or "Italy") to the API: no personal data is transmitted, only the search parameters.

Streaming radio playback
When you listen to a station, the app connects directly to the station's streaming server (a third-party service operated by the station itself). This connection is required to play the audio. Your IP address is visible to the station's server, as with any internet connection. Ridio has no control or visibility over how these servers handle their connection logs.
Song recognition with Shazam
Ridio integrates ShazamKit, Apple's framework for audio recognition. When you activate recognition (manually or automatically), your iPhone's microphone is briefly turned on for a few seconds.
The audio is processed entirely on your device. Ridio does not record, store, or transmit any audio. Not even we can access it: we have no servers capable of doing so.
iOS signals microphone activation with the orange privacy indicator, a system-level protection Apple applies to all apps.
You can disable automatic recognition from the app's Settings at any time.
Payments and in-app purchases
Ridio Premium is purchased exclusively through the Apple App Store. All transactions are handled by Apple, which applies its own privacy policy. Ridio does not receive or store your payment data.
Analytics and crash reporting
We do not use any analytics service (Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, etc.) and we do not collect crash reports. We do not know when you open the app, what you listen to, or where you connect from.
Cookies and trackers on the website
This website does not use profiling cookies or third-party tracking scripts. No cookie banner to accept.
Your rights
Under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and object to the processing of personal data. However, since Ridio does not collect any personal data, there is nothing to request or delete on our side. Data stored locally on your iPhone is under your sole control: you can delete it by uninstalling the app or using iOS data management features.

Changes to this privacy policy
If the privacy policy changes in the future, the update will be published on this page with the new "last updated" date at the top.
Governing jurisdiction
For any dispute related to the processing of personal data, the Italian courts shall have jurisdiction.
